Faculty Research Office postgraduate research student support

The Faculty Research Office provide Faculty specific support services for the Faculty's postgraduate research students, including:

  • Student fund

    This fund is available on an annual basis to eligible students upon application and can be applied for as needed. The fund provides financial assistance, to assist the Faculty's postgraduate research students to:

    • complete fieldwork, or
    • purchase goods and services essential to the completion of their thesis.

    Students may also apply for the Vice-Chancellor's postgraduate research student conference fund which is available 3 times a year.

  • Study spaces

    Where possible, students will be provided with a study space.

    Study spaces are:

    • accessible during business hours and also on evenings and during weekends via PIN access, and
    • equipped with desks, chairs, computers (Macs), printers, scanner, lockable cabinets, power points, network access point and one telephone per room.
  • Listserv (email list)

    The Faculty research students listserv is used to send regular emails to all the Faculty's research students under supervision, completing revisions or on leave with:

    • important University and Faculty information, and
    • information relating to external events and activities such as conferences and seminars.
  • Student research conference

    The Faculty Research Student Conference is an excellent opportunity for all research students to gain an insight into the type of research being produced by postgraduate students within the Faculty. This conference is held annually and is free for all students from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciecnes.

  • Seminars

    Each semester the Faculty's research students are encouraged to attend the Faculty research seminars where national and international scholars present their work.

    Students are notified about these opportunities through the Faculty research students listserv.

    Seminars and learning modules are also offered by research strengths, the Faculty and the Graduate Research School to support student candidature.
